31. Holyrood Park I

Back Main page Fwd

When I was in Edinburgh in the winter of 2020, I visited the castle. I noticed that there was a mountain not too far away, and I wanted to go there to explore. At that occasion, the day was too short to permit this, but this time I took the oppurtunity. The fact that my hotel and the SQL conference was very close to one of the entrances certainly helped.

Holyrood is a park area which is dominated by a mountain peak that reaches 251 metres above sea level. It is in fact an extinct vulcano. To this comes another ridge.

What is really nice is that the area is largely unexploited. There is no souvenir stand or café when you reach the top. All you can to is to take in the view. And you are still in central Edinburgh.

Quite a few pictures from the park follow.
