I made long trips in January and February in both 2017 and 2018, but for 2019 I decided to keep it simpler. Still, the thought of escaping the dreadful Stockholm winter for a while kept lingering, and I decided go to Madeira for one week and a half, as I knew that Madeira offers good walking opportunities. On the way home, I stayed for a few days in Lisbon, a city I have visited several times before. The last visit was in 2002, though, so it had been a while.
Below is summary with the best pictures, and then there are a couple of sub-sites. The first focuses on Funchal, the capital of Madeira, and the last is from Lisbon. The others are from various walks and day trips that I did, with one site per day.
There is a vast range of pictures of forests, water falls, mountain views etc and admittedly, there is some repetition. There is not much text with these pictures, and many of them don't have any other title than the file name. (And with such a title, there is never any text to the picture.) I need to add the disclaimer that a camera can only capture that much, and it is a poor replacement for being there and taking in the views yourself.
A quick orientation of Madeira: the island is not that big, but very mountainous. Most people live on the south and east coasts which are sunnier and drier. The north side is wetter, at least the time of year I was there. The weather can change a lot during the day, and among different points of the island, and you can see these in several of the series.
