Magome and Tsumago are two so-called post towns along Kiso-ji, one of the roads the feudal lords from the south of Japan could take to come to the shogun in Edo (which later would be known as Tokyo). The villages make an attempt to look like in old days, but they are quite much of tourist traps. However, you can walk the path of Kiso-ji between the villages and it is a very nice forest walk. This is a view from Magome.
