It was not unusual to see women in Kimono, not the least young girls (and actually a few young men as well). However, I mainly encountered them in Kyoto and Tokyo, and not so much elsewhere. The fact that there were so many in kimono in Kyoto may be due to that the gals dressed up when they were on vacation. Of course, they have to take pictures, when they are so elegantly dressed!
