Martina Franca is north of Lecce, and is actually somewhat closer to Matera than to Lecce. I made it to the town as a day excursion by taking the local train from Lecce. Also Martina Franca has its fair share of baroque architecture. In comparison with Lecce it pales off, but it's worth a few hours.
