My hinch about the weather was correct. Friday came with brilliant sunshine. Eight o'clock I took the town bus from the the railway station in Catania as high up as the road goes to the cabin-car station. The bus made a stop in Nicolosi, a small town just outside Catania, and I was able to catch when Etna emitted a puff of smoke.
