Palermo retains its medieval centre, and it's a true maze. There are some modern through streets, but beyond them there are streets and alleys of various degree of narrowness that wanders seemling aimlessly. You look at the map, and you know exactly where you are. You walk two blocks – and you are nowhere near where you intended to go.
This particular alley runs off from Via Divisi, just close to my hotel. The street sign for Via Divisi was tri-lingual. Beside Italian, it was also in Arabic, and, I believe, Hindi.
