Carcassonne is not only the Cité. Carcassonne is on Canal du Midi which connects the Mediterranean Sea with the Atlantic, and before the advent of the railways this was an important transport route. Today, the canal is mainly used for recreation. You can walk or cycle along the canal. And of course you can go by boat. I hopped on an excursion boat, packed with other tourists. A rental bike would have more been my style, but for some reason the idea did not occur to me until after the cruise, and by when it was too late. In any case, it was a day with brilliant sunshine, and I was able to get a seat in the stem of the boat, a perfect place for shooting good photos.
