La Défense is an area in western Paris that is full of modern architecture with glass and steel. I still recall when I first came here in 1991. Coming up from the metro, mmind went No, this can't be true.. Yes, it is... No.. Yes.. I was completely bewildered. Readers from the western continents where every city of any size has something like this may find this reaction funny, but I was a young and innocent country boy from Stockholm at the time.
