On my last day in the Llanquihue area, I drove up the vulcano itself. No, you don't get to the top, but the road takes you to an altitude of 1100-1200 metres above sea level. (The mountain is over 3000 metres high.)
After having seeing all these splendid views of the vulcano, surely there are now some magnificent lake views? Well, not really. The vulcano was draped in clouds this Sunday morning, and there was not much views at all. I hoped that the skies would clear, but rather the situation deteoriated while I was there, and after lunch I gave up.
Nevertheless, there are some pictures from the sort of moon landscape that the vulcano offers on higher levels. I found a path that took me to the "Red Crater".
